Who knew White Elephants were so joyful!?!
Once upon a time a very popular and nearly annual Alamance Women’s Community, Inc. event was a roaring hit. The White Elephant Auction and dinner raised money for our community support, including the AWC, Inc. Scholarship, and also served as a community and member social. This year, after a long hiatus, the White Elephant Returned.
Members collected their “cast-offs” aka “White Elephants” to be auctioned off by professional auctioneer team Dean and Libby Rainey who offered their services pro bono. Members and some guests contributed cakes and confections for the auction – those went for the highest bids. Also collected were dozens of gift cards donated by area restaurants, stores, and services by member Sandra Blanchard.
Members also made a selection of five soups that included chicken noodle, beef barley, and more while also gathering the supplies for sandwiches to be enjoyed along side the soups. A custom cake for dessert was donated by Linda of Cakes by Linda, a member’s friend. What a meal! What a time!
In the end, the Return of the White Elephant proceeds exceeded $900 – JOY!
Will you be a part of AWC’s success next year?
Special thanks to Dean and Lib Rainey, Linda Lunsford, Melba Fitzgerald, the AWC, Inc. Special Projects Committee, and all our wonderful guests that truly helped make this a great event.
